Notes

These are my transcriptions of U. S. Army enlistment register entries as made available online by Ancestry.com, who cites the database as:

Ancestry.com. U.S. Army, Register of Enlistments, 1798-1914 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: The Generations Network, Inc., 2007. Original data: Register of Enlistments in the U.S. Army, 1798-1914; (National Archives Microfilm Publication M233, 81 rolls); Records of the Adjutant General's Office, 1780's-1917, Record Group 94; National Archives, Washington, D.C.

"DT" is Dakota Territory; Fort Abraham Lincoln is in North Dakota. "G. C. M. O." is General Court Martial Order. Davids ' Island is in Long Island Sound off New Rochelle and had a recruiting station.

"CA" and "C Arty" are Coast Artillery. Fort Levett, Maine is in Casco Bay on Cushing Island, just south of Peak's Island, off South Portland. It was a wireless station in 1910. Fort Strong is on Long Island in Boston Harbor.

I don't know what "h. & f." means. "Blue-9" denotes that there was a superscript, underlined 9 to the right of "blue" in the eye color column; I have absolutely no idea what that's about.
