Notes

The McLellan Collection of Clinton County monument inscriptions is the result of four decades of work by Mr. & Mrs. Charles W. McLellan in the mid twentieth century. They donated it to the SUNY-Plattsburgh Feinberg Library, whose Special Collections department keeps it and will provide copies of entries.

The work has been indexed by surname: the McLellan Cemetery Records Online Index resides on the Clinton County NYGenWeb site. These pages also describe how to order desired entries from the Feinberg Library.

The entries below are transcriptions, as exact as I could make them, of every DISCO and LARAMEE entry appearing in the McLellan Cemetery Records Online Index. This index presumably closely matches the collection, but I don't know how complete the collection is. The first column usually has a sketch of the monument along with notes; I have included only the notes; I surmise that "m" means marble and "gr" means granite. The second column is the inscription, or, if no stone is sketched, what appear to be cemetery records. Parenthesized comments in column three reflect the original. My comments and gratuitous spelling corrections are in square brackets. The conventions used by the authors appear to have changed over the decades. Some entries use a slash (stroke) to denote ends of lines, others do not; some spelling inconsistencies and errors are marked by underlining, others are not; some surnames are underlined for indexing purposes, some are not. They seem to have been careful to preserve the original punctuation, capitalization, and spelling, but I have not seen the original stones so I cannot comment on the accuracy. Apply the usual caution appropriate to dealing with an index.

Isle la Motte is in Vermont on Lake Champlain, but I don't know how it applies to the Laramee monument in St. Joseph's, Coopersville..

I used the "§" symbol in the Coopersville entries to represent a cross.

I don't know what the pair of asterisks on Bejamin Minkler's entry refers to.

Names of ancestors are in bold red type.
